Worship

Worship in our parish varies throughout the year. We have three different worship sites. From Columbus Day weekend through Memorial Day weekend, we worship in St. Mary's Chapel on Kimball Road in Northeast Harbor. After Memorial Day, we worship at St. Mary's by-the-Sea on Shore Road, through the first Sunday in October. In addition, St. Jude's chapel in Seal Harbor holds worship services during July and August. Current locations and times of worship (including special services) are listed on our home page.

We worship in the Episcopal Church tradition, using the 1979 Book of Common Prayer and the 1980 Hymnal, as well as newer authorized texts and hymns. Worship on Sunday is primarily Holy Eucharist, which includes communion. Worship follows the themes of the church year: Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Pentecost and after. These frame our choices and our focus. Scripture readings follow the Revised Common Lectionary which is used by many Christian denominations.

Worship involves participation on the part of many people. We train and schedule acolytes, lectors (readers), chalice bearers, greeters, and members of the altar guild.

Sermons from preceding Sundays and special occasions are occasionally posted.

A Worship Committee meets a few times during the year to coordinate and plan worship.

Current members of the committee are: Peter Vaux, Kathy Suminsby, Jackie Agnese, Maude March

Music
Our music program is ably led by Peter Vaux, Music Director. In addition to playing organ for Sunday and special services, he coordinates a summer choir and arranges for special music throughout the year. The summer choir sings beginning in late June through Labor Day weekend at St. Mary's by-the-Sea. Singers are always welcome.

Watch for special music events posted on our home page or in current events.
